The Dante Quartet recorded Stanford’s String Quartets Numbers 1 and 6 on March 5th and 6th, 2019 at St. Nicholas Church in Thames Ditton to complete their cycle of Stanford’s String Quartets for SOMM Recordings. This is the first project to record the complete cycle of Stanford’s Quartets and has been sponsored jointly by the Stanford Society and the Durham University Music Department. Six of the Quartets have been recorded for the first time.
Five of the Quartets have already been released by SOMM to critical acclaim. The Quartets Numbers 5 and 6 on SOMM CD 0160 and the Quartets Numbers 3, 4 and 7 on SOMM CD 0185. The Quartets Numbers 1, 2 and 6 will be released by SOMM in January 2020. The Dante Quartet plan to record Stanford’s two String Quintets in the spring of 2020.
