On Sunday 8th July, Leamington Chamber Orchestra will be performing Stanford's Irish Concertino for Violin, Cello and Orchestra. The concert will take place at 3pm in Leamington Spa Town Hall, CV32 4AT. There will also be refreshments in the interval. The programme will be as follows: Elegy to Brahms - Parry An Irish Concertino - Stanford Symphony No. 2 - Brahms The soloists for the performance are Amy Littlewood (violin) and Lucy Arch (cello). The conductor will be Richard Laing. Stanford completed the Irish Concertino on 22nd January 1918 for May (Violin) and Beatrice (Cello), the daughters of Colonel and Mrs John Harrison, close family friends of Stanford. The work is in two movements; the first taking the form of variations on an original theme and the second, an Irish reel. The premiere was given by the Harrison sisters in a reduced form prepared by Stanford on 4th December 1918 at Wigmore Hall. The full orchestral version was heard only once at Bournemouth on 22nd April 1920. This orchestral version will be performed by the Leamington Chamber Orchestra.
